Cosmetology

Cosmetologists and other personal appearance technicians, such as nail technicians, stylist assistants, and skin care specialists (estheticians) provide specialized services to help clients look and feel their best. Your cosmetology license can take you in many directions depending upon the depth of your passion and the effort you are willing to invest in your future. As a licensed stylist, you can build a loyal clientele, help your team succeed, and become involved in competitions, photo shoots, and trade shows. You could also become affiliated with a distributor or manufacturing firm and assist them with education, product training, marketing, and/or sales. For more information, please contact Jacquelyn Minter.

Who Should Apply?

Employment prospects are very good for recent cosmetology program graduates, as many open and new salon positions are filled with cosmetologists with less than one year of work experience. This affords graduating students a great opportunity for employment! Additionally, graduates can work toward building a career in the entertainment industry as a cosmetologist, nail technician, and makeup artist. Like any other career, in order to be successful, students must have the desire, ambition, and training to pursue his/her goals in a methodical and ethical manner. The acquisition of these skills can lead to career pathways such as:

  • Hairstylist
  • Hair designer
  • Color artist
  • Barber
  • Esthetician
  • Makeup artist
  • Salon owner
  • Product representative/sales
  • Sales and demonstration
  • Instructor
  • Platform artist
  • Cinematic makeup
